Mansfield Hospice “Backs a Winner”
The Sir John Eastwood Hospice won last Friday when local MP Sir Alan Meale decided to donate his winnings from a charity bet he made with Ladbrokes.
Sir Alan was asked by the betting chain Ladbrokes which also has a shop on Queen Street, to choose a horse in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and they gave him the sum of £50 to bet on a horse in the race.
“Coweygree” who stormed home at a price of 10/1 saw a return for the charity bet of £370.
After the horse won Sir Alan announced he would like the money to be donated to the local charity to help with their fundraising activities.
Mr Meale said:
“Everyone who works in the hospice should be given a Gold Cup for the excellent voluntary work they do. Their work is magnificent and anyone whose had a loved one connected to the Hospice should know, the care and kindness given is invaluable. The money could not be better invested.”
